Ego, subtle ego and moderation

What are the two great things a human has to overcome? - Illusion and Ego

We generally think that a person who shouts at others, who keeps boasting of himself and disregards others views and feelings is a very egoistic person. But ego is such a vast thing that there are many things hidden within it.

There is something called the “ subtle ego”. A person could be soft spoken and composed but yet could have a great degree of subtle ego. This subtle ego is like a dangerous weapon in beautiful package.

It manifests itself in so many ways such as shyness, intolerance, unable to mingle with conflicting personalities, doing something which we can’t afford or which is not necessary but we still do it just to maintain a social status.

We can stay away from threats to ego and choose peace in loneliness but one day or the other we need to confront situations which could come as a shock to our subtle ego which lies deep inside us even without our knowledge.

It’s tough to live happily with conflicting personalities, it’s easier to stay away from such people and stay at peace. But it’s important to stay at peace with whoever we are.Variety is the spice of life. Life is too short to hold onto grudges, anger and complaints. To live in peace with others we need to accept and understand that each human has their own view point, ideas and way of life and they could be right from their view point.

Drawing boundaries and maintaining self respect is a skill and an art. Accepting, adapting and adjusting is yet another skill.Trying to find a balance between self respect, peace on one side and compassion , acceptance of others on another side is such a high level state of moderation which is possible only after tackling both the ego and the subtle ego to a certain extent.

This moderation is possible only when we start becoming the observer or witness of our thoughts and feelings instead of associating our identity with them.

Moderation is the highest form of character .On this blessed day of Easter May God bless us with such a moderation and compassion towards ourselves and others.
